The hydraulic system provides power to all of the dredging components. VMI horizontal dredges are equipped with four independent hydraulic pumps to provide ample flow to all hydraulic components without starvation. All continuously operated dredging functions are equipped with variable speed so you can optimize between engine speed and hydraulic operation speeds.
A closed loop, heavy duty, variable speed piston pump and motor are used to run the centrifugal dredge pump. The centrifugal dredge pump hydraulic system utilizes a high pressure filter, as well as a dedicated hydraulic tank. An additional closed loop piston pump and motor are used to run the cutter head drive. This system also includes a high pressure filter and has variable speed control. The traverse winch drive system uses a closed loop piston pump and gearotor motor with variable speed. An open loop gear pump in conjunction with a two way self centering valve with safety relief provides flow to the two heavy duty dual action hydraulic boom cylinders.
Enhanced filtration includes: suction and return, as well as high-pressure filters to extend the life of all hydraulic mechanisms. Hydraulic oil coolers are also incorporated to allow the system to run continuously even in extreme conditions without excessive heating. For added protection automated alarms and manual monitoring devices are provided for each dredge function.
